Team Ministries

There are a variety of ways to get involved with the parish family at St Barnabas.  When you give of your time and talent in support of the ministries of the church, not only does your offering “overflow in many thanksgivings to God” (2 Cor. 10:12), you will find yourself blessed in many friends.  Into what service may God be calling you?  Here are some ways of joining with others in service of God and the community.

Servers’ Guild - The work of the Servers Guild is one of the most visible forms of lay service. They are the ones you see serving the clergy at the altar, and helping foster the solemnity and reverence of Holy Worship.  Before the Mass, the members of the Servers’ Guild light candles, set out the sacred objects and service materials, and assist the clergy in their vesting and prayers.  During the service, they perform such roles and duties as crucifer (bearing the Cross, ringing the sanctuary bells); acolytes (carrying candles, setting and clearing the Altar); thurifer (bearing the thurible, censing); MC (carrying the Gospel Book, guiding others); and lay Chalice-bearer (assisting in the Communion).

Sanctuary Guild – sometimes referred to as the ‘Altar Guild,’ the Sanctuary Guild is in charge of cleaning, caring for, and preparing the sacred vessels for the Mass, as well as for the candles, lamps, altar linens, and vestments.  The Sanctuary Guild works quietly and prayerfully behind the scenes, ensuring that all that is required for worship is laid out in preparation for our three weekly celebrations of the Eucharist and all the other various services of worship throughout the year.

The Choir – If you have a talent for singing, the choir is always happy for new members to join them.  Rehearsals are every Thursday at 7-9 p.m., and before Sunday Worship beginning at 9:15.  Please refer to the ‘Music Ministry’ page, here.

Lay Pastoral Care Team – The purpose of the Lay Pastoral Care Team is to offer comfort, support, and prayer to parishioners who are sick, hospitalized, lonely, or bereaved, including those in residential care.  We participate in meal-trains, visit, write cards, pray, and keep folks connected with one another and the life of the parish.  Referrals come for the congregation through the Rector or Team Co-ordinator.  If you would like a visit from, or be part of, this ministry, please contact the church office.
