St Barnabas has, for some time, been considering how best to manage the investment of parish funds. The subject of ethical investment came up for discussion at our Annual General Meeting in February 2016. In keeping with a motion passed at that time the Finance Committee has prepared a new, draft Investment Policy and recommendations on a new investment management firm. These will be put forward for discussion and decision at a Special General Meeting on November 12 following lunch.
You will likely have received a package of information by mail. The proposed Investment Policy outlines our objectives and will be used to guide the selected investment firm in managing our funds on a day to day basis.
The selection of an investment firm is an equally important decision. The recommendation to use Blue Heron Advisory Group (a division of CIBC / Wood Gundy) is based on the ethical investment services which they offer and on their financial performance record, which is better than that of our existing portfolio over the past 3 to 5 years. Further information on this will be given on November 12.
Please give careful and prayerful consideration to these matters and plan to attend the SGM. We are seeking to discern God’s will in these matters and to make decisions in a spirit of love and respect for all opinions.
